As financial markets get fickle and currencies get shaky… what can you trust? If you’ve traveled any in the past few years you’ve seen how the mighty dollar has fallen. Now the euro is facing some turbulence. I’m running down a list right now and I can’t find one currency that doesn’t give me worries. All of them are promises of value (nothing precious about any of them if the governments issuing those promises runs into trouble).

Did you know that you can’t even trust a penny anymore? Up until 1982 US pennies were made with 95% copper. As the value of copper kept rising (compared to the value of a penny) guess what happened… the formula for pennies changed to 97.5% zinc. Much cheaper and no one noticed because who cares about pennies? The copper in one of those older pennies is worth about 3 cents right now (that’s money with value). Our current pennies are worth about 1/2 a cent melted down. Remember silver dimes and silver certificates? Do you wonder why those got replaced with our paper promises?

But we’re not worried about pennies right? How about numbers in our bank accounts? Would you believe there was a time when every number (bill) issued by the US government actually represented a fixed amount of silver or gold held in tightly guarded banks. Of course, that’s not how the world works now… and the world is doing great right? Right.

I’ve actually been worried about this for many years now but there was no way for someone like me to easily convert small sums of money into silver or gold. I sure couldn’t afford to buy a gold brick! I could buy jewelry or old coins but converting that back to currency was messy and there was much loss in the process (take jewelry for example- much of the value is in craftsmanship and that’s difficult to convert). The situation is changing though and I think for the better. The world economies need to be grounded- all our kites need to be brought back to earth. Simply printing more money is BAD for everyone. All it does is continue the trend of devaluation. Check out the value of the dollar compared to silver over the last 100 years!

So, that said, follow this link for an easy way to turn your bank-number-promises-of-today into real silver or gold. No huge deposit required- you can buy and sell in grams even. Last time I checked they’ll even give you a free gram of silver to check out how the system works. I will get some credit if you decide to try them out but I really believe that this will help us all in the long run so…
